Last Menstrual Period Last Menstrual Period:

The fertile window refers to the days in your menstrual cycle when you are most likely to get pregnant. This typically includes 3-5 days leading up to ovulation and the day of ovulation itself. While the egg survives for only 12-24 hours after ovulation, sperm can live inside the female reproductive system for up to 5 days. It is recommended to have intercourse every other day during this window to increase the chances of conception.

Ovulation is the release of a mature egg from the ovaries and travels down the fallopian tube where the fertilisation by a sperm cell may occur. Ovulation usually happens around 14 days before you get your period. However, ovulation can vary from cycle to cycle. Monitoring additional signs such as changes in cervical mucus, basal temperature or using ovulation prediction kit can provide more accuracy.

This is an estimated date of your next menstrual period, based on your average cycle length. While useful for general tracking, the actual date can shift due to factors like stress, illness, travel, or hormonal changes. Noting any delays in your period can also help identify potential early signs of pregnancy.

Home pregnancy tests detect a hormone called human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG), which begins to rise about 6-12 days after implantation, or roughly 12-14 days after ovulation. Testing too early may result in a false negative even if pregnancy has occurred. For the most accurate result, it is best to wait until the day your period is due or a few days later. If the result is negative but your period still hasn't started, wait a few more days and repeat the test.

If conception occurs during this cycle, your estimated due date (EDD) is calculated as approximately 40 weeks (280 days) from the first day of the last menstrual period. The actual due date may vary depending on the timing of ovulation, implantation, or ultrasound findings in early pregnancy.
