The fertile window refers to the days in your menstrual cycle when conception is most likely to occur. This usually covers the 3-5 days leading up to ovulation and the day of ovulation itself.

• An egg only survives 12–24 hours after being released.
• Sperm can live in the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days.
• To maximise your chances of pregnancy, try to have intercourse every other day during this window.

Ovulation is when a mature egg is released from the ovary and travels down the fallopian tube, where fertilisation can happen. It typically occurs about 14 days before your next period, but timing can vary.

Ways to predict ovulation more accurately:

• Monitor cervical mucus changes
• Track basal body temperature
• Use an ovulation prediction kit (OPK)

Your next period start date is estimated based on your average cycle length. The actual date may shift depending on:

• Stress
• Illness
• Travel
• Hormonal changes

A home pregnancy test detects the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which rises 6-12 days after implantation (around 12-14 days after ovulation).

For accurate results:

• Take the test on or after the day your period is due.
• Testing too early can cause a false negative.
• If your period still hasn't started, wait a few days and test again.

If conception occurs during this cycle, your estimated due date is calculated as about 40 weeks (280 days) from the first day of your last menstrual period.
